Delving into the dynamic world of music and digital interaction, this course project was centered on crafting a pivotal connection between musicians, playlist curators, and avid music listeners through the development of QRATOR, a novel playlist trading app. This project explored the intricate process of branding and design within the context of a real-world application, pushing the boundaries of how we engage with music digitally. The challenge was to encapsulate the essence of musical discovery and exchange in a brand that speaks both to creators and consumers, seamlessly integrating the functionalities of Spotify to offer a comprehensive platform for musical exploration and promotion. It all started with the idea of curating musical excursions, which is well represented in the name, a play on the word "curator." The branding journey examined a range of logo concepts that all included the crucial "Q," from the abstract depictions of musical components to the transactional symbolism of music sharing via cell phones. Enhanced with a contemporary gradient color scheme, the final logo embodies the spirit of music curation and discovery: a subtle abstract record player forming a 'Q'. Choosing a rich purple color scheme to contrast with Spotify's signature green, QRATOR presents itself as a lively addition to the platform, representing a new avenue for musical exploration and engagement and bridging the divide between artists, curators, and listeners through an aesthetically captivating story. The goal this project reached was the creation of a brand that reflects the diversity and energy of the music industry, rather than just a utilitarian tool. Offering a fresh perspective on musical research and sharing, QRATOR is proof of the ability of well-considered design to bridge barriers between artists, curators, and listeners. With the UX/ UI design successful in leading both sides of the platform to get what they want easily, this application was a challenge executed cleanly.
