Burning Man to Cure the Psyche - Magazine Article
Coursework
Graphic Design / Typography
Editorial Design
2022
The goal of this course assignment was to create an editorial piece utilizing creative typography and design that not only captures the attention of readers but also perfectly captures the colorful spirit of the Burning Man event. I chose to depict this yearly psychedelic art and music festival in the Nevada desert with excellent typography, illusory grid systems, and a theme of psychedelic art. Attendees often view these exceptional installations and life-changing cultural experiences as healing. To convey the spirit of the festival, I channeled 1970s psychedelia with neon effects and strong typography when creating a magazine article on Burning Man. With neon highlights boosting thematic cohesiveness, a sandy beige unifies the piece, representing the desert landscape and spanning the day-to-night festival experience. The design, which strikes a balance between light and dark pages, guarantees readability and draws readers into the mood of the occasion. To preserve design coherence, neon text effects are used on quotations and drop caps as well as the cover. The piece is enhanced by the imaginative use of photos, strong subheads, and ornamental phrases in addition to lighthearted text wrapping. This results in a visually stunning journey that also provides an interesting examination of Burning Man's transforming effects.
