I designed the album cover for "Death Note," a collection of songs for my independent music project that explores themes of loss and betrayal through the Trap-Soul, Hip-Hop, and Lo-Fi genres. The title itself is a metaphor for letting go of suppressed feelings: 'Death' refers to the breakup of friendships and relationships, while 'Note' refers to my lyric book, which is effectively a diary where these emotions are written down. To represent the idea of releasing and letting go, I coordinated a photograph session in which my lyric book is displayed burning, a potent representation of freedom from previous obligations. The album cover's color palette, which includes desaturated blues, reds, black, and gray, was carefully chosen to capture the melancholy, introspective tone of the record. The album's spirit is mostly communicated through typography; the title uses a modern gothic typeface that combines the gloomy and the current. This decision reflects the album's depth both stylistically and thematically, highlighting the music's modernity as well as its dark, undercurrents. This album cover is a tribute to the storytelling potential of visuals; every design decision was carefully considered concerning the emotional terrain of the song, resulting in a visually striking and harmonious accompaniment to the trap-soul melodies and lyrical storylines found in "Death Note."
